In order to apply for Housing Services Programs, or obtain additional information, please contact your area SEK-CAP Family and Community Services Office or call the Housing Services Office at 620-724-8204 in Girard.

Housing Services Programs offered include:

H HUD (Housing and Urban Development) Section 8 Program helps pay rent for qualified applicants. The assistance is ongoing as long as the family qualifies.

H TBRA (Tenant Based Rental Assistance) focuses on helping homeless low-income families. Rental assistance is for a maximum of two years. Through this program, the applicant can receive help with security and utility deposits. Applications for the TBRA Program may be taken while funding is available.

H CHDO (Community Housing Development Organization) is a program through which SEK-CAP, Inc. applies for funding to construct efficient, affordable single-family homes that qualified families may rent. We currently have over 40 homes in 8 communities. For income guidelines to participate in the CHDO Program,  please call 620-724-8204, ext. 104.

H Weir  Sun Crest View Apartments ( HUD Section 202 Program) consists of 12 apartments and a communal laundry. Applicants must  meet age and/or disability guidelines. The amount of rent paid by the tenant is based on their income

H Cherokee Duplexes consist of three duplex buildings, for a total of 6 rental units. These homes offer range, refrigerator, washer and dryer hookup, central heat and air and garbage disposal for Southeast Kansas families that are single or two members, income eligible and 55 or older and/or have a disability. These were built as part of the CHDO Program.

H CHOICES Apartments are newly remodeled two bedroom units located in downtown Pittsburg. These second floor units have central heat and air conditioning, range and refrigerator, laundry facilities, fire and  security protection and other amenities. Funding for these units was also received through the CHDO Program.

H Facilities Maintenance activities are a vital part of our effort to provide quality services. With over 40 recently constructed homes, a 12-unit elderly/disabled housing complex, 13 Head Start centers, Central  Office and Annex buildings, and other offices and Centers, maintenance staff are in demand and on the move!

H Weatherization provides energy saving measures for income eligible households. To qualify, total family income must not exceed 60% of the State median income. Gross income for all family members will be needed to determine eligibility. Rental homes may be weatherized if the landlord agrees. Owners may be required to pay costs associated with furnace replacements, if they are needed.

 

Weatherization assistance may include:

1. Inspection, repair and/or replacement of combustion appliances (furnaces and console, wall or floor heaters).

2. Air sealing and minor repairs.

3. Attic insulation to a minimum of R-30.

4. Side-wall insulation.

 

Please click here if you would like information about The Kansas Energy Efficiency Program (KEEP). This program provides low interest loans to qualified Kansas homeowners to make improvements to their homes to increase energy efficiency. The program is for persons who have income at or below 100 percent of the state median income. KHRC funds half of the loaned amount, up to a maximum of $7,500 at a low interest rate.
